12. Burung hantu adalah pemangsa dan sangat membantu manusia dalam membasmi hama pengerat seperti tikus.

The Nightingale's Voice - Narrative Text

           

          One day all the birds gathered in the forest to choose the bird with the best voice, the one which could sing most beautifully. There were the peacock, the dove, the parrot, etc. Each bird was to write on a piece of paper the name of the bird she thought had the best voice. “Hey! I’ll be the winner!” said the peacock. “No! You can’t, of course the winner is me.” Said the dove.

          Except for the nightingale, each bird wrote her own name on the ballot. The nightingale was too kindhearted, too considerate, to make a choice among her friends, so she did not write any name at all. “If I choose her they will angry to me, but if I choose that one of course the other will get mad to me. Hmm...” said the nightingale. All the other birds scorned her and said of course she would not write anything because she had the worst voice and she was jealous of the others. “Of course your voice is bad, so you not write anything. You just jealous to us.” Said the vain peacock.

          That night after everybody else had gone to sleep and the forest was silent, the nightingale felt lonely, and she began to sing sadly with her touching voice.

          From then on, nightingales have sung every night, and they are known as the sweetest voiced singer.

MY VERANDA (Descriptive Text)

In the second floor of my house, there is an interesting place. That is my veranda.

            My veranda is look like a “pendopo”, because it has some wood that support the building. There is a seat in the corner of my veranda. And the other corner there is a bathroom. A half part on my veranda has a roof, and the other part there is no roof. In my veranda there are some birds. There are many trees near the cage, there are guava’s tree, papaya’s tree, and orange’s tree.  All of the trees are planted in the pots. My mother, plant so many orchids. There are 8 types of orchids. In my veranda there are some other plants.

            My veranda is very comfortable for me to study, do my homework, do a chat with my parents, and playing a game. I often do my homework in there until the midnight. When I do my homework there, the atmosphere is quiet and comfortable in the midnight. My veranda is my favorite place in my house beside my bedroom.

THE VAIN LITTLE MOUSE

Little Mouse lived in a beautiful little house. One day when she was sweeping the floor, she found a coin.

She said, “With this coin, I’m going to buy a nice red bow for my hair. I’ll look beautiful!”

She was really beautiful with the red bow in her hair. She sat next to the window so that everybody could see her.

“Little mouse, you do look pretty.” Said the donkey. “Will you marry me?”

And she asked, “What will you do at night?”

“I’ll bray like this,” said the donkey. And he brayed.

“Oh, no, I’ll get frightened,” said the mouse.

Then the dog asked her, “Little mouse , you do look beautiful. Why don’t you marry me?”

“What will you do at night?” asked the mouse.

“I’ll bark like this,” said the dog. And he barked.

“Oh, no, I’ll get frightened,” said the mouse.

Finally, the cat asked her, “Beautiful littlel mouse, will you marry me?”

“What will you do at night?” asked the mouse.

“I’ll sing like this.” said the cat. And he sang a beautiful song.

“Yes, I’ll marry you,” said the mouse.

So they got married, but on their wedding night, guess what!

The cat did not sing his beutiful song. He ate the vain little mouse.
